Scripture Union Daily Guide 5 November 2024 Outline:

Nebuchadnezzar is dreaming again, and this time, a very bad one. Chronologically vs.I-3 come after the events in the rest of the chapter. They introduce Nebuchadnezzar’s narration of what happened to
him. Compare vs.2 and 3 with v.8b. What contrast is there between concept of God before and after his dreadful experience? (We shall read about it tomorrow). There is a big difference between acknowledging the ‘Most High God’ as almighty and eternal (vs 2,3), and merely recognizing Him as one of many ‘holy gods’, one of whom is Nebuchadnezzar’s personal god (v.8).

King Nebuchadnezzar has reached the peak of his power (vs.Io,). An ancient inscription compares
Babylon to an enormous spreading tree. It seems that nothing can disturb his prosperity and power. God gave him many opportunities to know him (chapters 2-3). The revelation of these mysteries is yet
another. Instead of responding to God, he was very contented and self-satisfied in his godless life (v.4).

God’s judgment came upon him, the admirable and mighty tree. Many, like Nebuchadnezzar, refuse to think about God until they have problems. What about you? Note the purpo purpose of this dream in v.I7.
